# Errors, polling, and retries

> Handle structured API errors and asynchronous forecast failures safely.

# Errors, polling, and retries

API errors use a stable envelope:

```json theme={null}
{
  "error": {
    "code": "RATE_LIMITED",
    "message": "Rate limit exceeded.",
    "request_id": "00000000-0000-4000-8000-000000000000"
  }
}
```

Common status codes:

* `401` — missing, invalid, expired, or revoked credential.
* `403` — scope, workspace role, plan, or license gate denied the request.
* `404` — resource not found or not visible to this identity.
* `422` — configuration, data, horizon, model, or quantile validation failed.
* `429` — request or compute quota exceeded.

Retry only transient failures. Reuse an `Idempotency-Key` when retrying forecast creation so a network timeout does not launch duplicate inference.

Worker failures are structured by model and retryability. Public responses never include raw stack traces, secret values, authorization headers, or private filesystem paths.
